The woobie is the one piece of issued gear nobody turns in. Ours is that classic: a quilted, insulated blanket light enough to live in your pack year-round, and warm enough that you'll keep reaching for it long after the camping trip is over.

Three ways people use it

• Tied into a poncho. The liner has built-in cords along its edges and corners. Thread them through the grommets on a USGI Industries Rain Poncho and tie them off, and you've got a waterproof shell with insulation underneath.
• On its own as a blanket. Truck, treestand, tailgate, bleachers, couch. It packs down small enough that it just lives in the vehicle.
• As shelter material. Those same cords let you rig it with paracord as a hammock underquilt, a lean-to liner, or an improvised bed.

Care

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, tumble dry low. No bleach, no dry cleaning. Store it loosely in the stuff sack rather than tightly compressed for months at a time. The loft lasts longer that way.
